Odd UnsupportedCharsetException

Hi Felipe,

Let’s start from the beginning.

So, you have the very latest 1.5-dev build, you have the full JDK
1.6u18, all on Windows, right?
And, you have charsets.jar available in JDK as well?

What does this for you:

jruby -rnkf -ve “p NKF.guess(‘vvs’)”

Also, could you clarify the specific steps you perform to get the JVM
crash?

Thanks,
–Vladimir

Perhaps it’s time we had you try a 1.5-dev build…

Hi Charlie,I installed the 1.5 dev as you said, but that didn’t help me!
Here is part of my new log file generated by the same crash message from
the last message. Of course i erased some information from the stack
part, as the file had 140 kb of data!

Hey Guys,

I’m sorry but since i had no reply from my last post in the last days, i
had to move on with my project which is already delayed.I’m sorry, but i
can’t debug this Jruby stuff anymore. Â Sorry guys that i can’t help you
with that, but now i decided to use Ruby!
If you guys have any news, just let me know!
Best Regards and thanks for trying to help me with this problem!

That is too bad…I hope using Ruby works out for you. If you’re able
to stop by IRC some day and work with us to investigate things more
closely, or able to get us an example script/app that causes the
issues, we are still willing to help.

The following step returns 0

jruby -rnkf -ve “p NKF.guess(‘vvs’)”
jruby 1.5.0.dev (ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 174) (2010-01-18 dafd4b1) (Java
HotSpot(T
M) Client VM 1.6.0_18) [x86-java]
0

I am using mechanize and nokogiri. These both perform the task very well
on Ruby(when i switch from jruby to Ruby verything works fine).
What i did so far, i unistalled all the previous version of java that i
had, and re-installed again(Currently JDK1.6 update 18). As i said the
evolution of the problem was first receiving the
UnsupportedCharsetException exactly as the first message of the post
received. After following the suggestion of Charile(I think, or someone
else here), i put the charset.jar in the correct folder and therefore
the message of unsupportedcharset changed to this complete fail message
that i sent on my last message! if you want the things in details then i
suggest an email where i can send the code that leads to the crash.

I just want to remember that i tested the combination Mechanize 0.9.3 &
Nokogiri 1.4.1 ,both with jruby 1.4.0 and Jruby 1.5.0-dev. Both of them
return the same fail message!

Also, could you clarify the specific steps you perform to get the JVM
crash?

Thanks,
–Vladimir

Well, that’s good to hear  Keep us informed if you run into other
