# MP4 Content-Type Header

Hello All,

I am noticing when I run curl on a MP4 file I get the  
application/octet-stream content type:

curl -I [http://192.168.3.117/videofile.mp4](http://192.168.3.117/videofile.mp4)

HTTP/1.1 200 OK  
Content-Type: application/octet-stream

Is there a reason why it wouldn’t be “video/mp4”?

A few users have said “it is causing issues in players”. (vague I know)

nginx version: nginx/1.2.0

configure arguments: --with-http\_stub\_status\_module  
–with-http\_ssl\_module --with-http\_secure\_link\_module  
–add-module=/home/justin/ngx\_cache\_purge-1.5  
–add-module=/home/justin/ngx\_mp4\_module-0.9.4  
–add-module=/home/justin/ngx\_flv\_module-0.9

Hey,

check your’s /etc/nginx/mime.types file. And add the following line if  
missing in the types block:  
video/mp4 mp4;
