Hi!

I’m deploying a RoR app under Apache with Phusion Passenger (aka’
mod\_rails), but i rode at [Support](http://www.modrails.com/documentation.html)
that isn’t good idea use it for a producction server.

I was searching, and i got a lot of opinions about use/not use for
production, the most negative opinions are around 2007/2008.

I want to know if Phusion Passenger give the needed stability and
security for use it at production server.

- The only situation where is not recomendable to use, it’s at VPS/Share
hosting because that:

“mod\_ruby uses a shared interpreter per Apache process, which means that
multiple Rails applications on the same Apache setup with mod\_ruby would
share the framework classes. This doesn’t work well with the Rails model
of using class-level configuration attributes, so it’s considered unsafe
to use mod\_ruby and Rails with more than one application running per
Apache setup, because different applications may start sharing the
classes.”

But thisn’t a problem for me, because i’m going to run only one app at
the server.

I aprecite all help.
Thank you.

Mod\_Rails (Phusion Passenger) is different than Mod\_Ruby. You’ll enjoy
using Mod\_Rails.

You misread that page. That page correctly states that mod\_ruby is not
suitable for production hosting of Rails apps. However, mod\_ruby has
absolutely nothing to do with Passenger (mod\_rails).

Yes, absolutely! I recommend Passenger very highly.
