Hi Everyone,

I just started to learn ruby and ruby on rails since I have to get a
codebase up and running someone else programmed. I installed everything
fine, though when I try to launch WEBrick, I get the following error:

=\> Booting WEBrick…
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active\_record/base.rb:1095:in
`method_missing': undefined method`find\_by\_rfc\_3066’ for
Globalize::Language:Class (NoMethodError)
from
./script/…/config/…/vendor/plugins/globalize/lib/globalize/models/language.rb:37:in
`pick' from ./script/../config/../config/environment.rb:58 from /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:27:in`require’

I figured out that the globalize plugin is the cause, thus I tried to
find the find\_by\_rfc\_3066 method somewhere. But I couldn’t find it. Am I
missing some ruby packages?

I use the latest globalize code base (revision 200 from subversion).

Thank you for any help,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

because of the _magic of Ruby_ and Rails there is no such method in
source 🙂
The method is created at runtime and is looking for an attribute of
name find\_by\_NAME in the table that is assoziated with the model.

Example: If a table users has an attribute name you can find a user
by name with:

User.find\_by\_name “Thomas”
User.find\_by\_name\_and\_age “Thomas”, 42
…

I think your problem is more about a wrong setup of Globalize.
Look, if you find a table globalize\_languages in your database.
That one has the attribute rfc\_3066.
