Do you maybe have a firewall running that’s blocking port 3000?

Did you start your Rails application by issuing the command
$ ruby script/server
in your project’s home directory? You must do this to start webrick,
Ruby’s built-in webserver. (If you have lighttpd installed, script/
server will use it instead, unless you invoke it like this: script/
server webrick). Only then will your Rails application be listening
for connections on the default port of 3000.
