I am on arch linux and installed gtk-ruby from the pacman But when i require the lib from my script it gives me this error [rick@Sophiya ~]$ irb irb(main):001:0\> require ‘gtk2’ irb: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/ruby/site\_ruby/1.8/i686-linux/ pango.so: undefined symbol: pango\_glyph\_item\_get\_type Can anyone tell me what the hell is wrong??? ---

i did just that sorry if i was not able to describe myself properly. Are you sure your package caches are up to date? Try $ pacman -Syy pango ruby-pango ruby-gtk also check $ strings /usr/lib/ruby/site\_ruby/1.8/i686-linux/pango.so | grep pango\_glyph\_item\_get\_type and $ strings /usr/lib/libpango-1.0.so | grep pango\_glyph\_item\_get\_type they should both return ‘pango\_glyph\_item\_get\_type’ on my system i have ruby-gtk2 0.18.1-1 ruby-pango 0.18.1-1 pango 1.22.4-1 If all else fails, try a different mirror, try to rebuild pango, ruby-pango. ruby-gtk2 using current PKGBUILDS, file a bug report… ---

Though I am not sure that this will help you, try running the following two commands: ruby1.8 -e ‘require “gtk2”’ ruby1.9 -e ‘require “gtk2”’ Using ruby1.8, ruby1.9, irb1.8 or irb1.9 rather than just ruby or irb forces the selected ruby version you wish to run. If this solves your problem we can fix your ruby and irb to use the correct version. I also suggest you post your problem on “Ruby-Gnome 2” forum ([http://www.ruby-forum.com/forum/12](http://www.ruby-forum.com/forum/12)), where Gtk problems are discussed. Good luck, Torli
