Hi All,

Wondering if anyone knows any pros/cons to any of the different rails
hosting providers… I’m deploying a facebook app and am wondering where
to host it…

Right now, I have a [hostingrails.com](http://hostingrails.com) account, but am wondering if there
is a better hosting provider for facebook apps.

Thanks!
Dustin

I don’t have personal experience with managing facebook apps but here is
a
post from/about Joyent hosting facebook apps.

Just as a follow-up, I’m using Joyent so far - they have a free hosting
offer for facebook apps. [www.joyent.com](http://www.joyent.com)

Hi,

I just tried [www.dreamhost.com](http://www.dreamhost.com) which is quite nice :

- Support Ruby on Rails,
- 500Go of disk space,
- 5To of bandwith,
- …
for $5.95/month

and I got a discount of $47 off for my 1 year registration with the
promo code “chrystal”.

Best regards and happy new year,

teum

No1 should use dreamhost’s shared hosting for facebook app unless they
don’t want their app to get popular.

It’s damn slow just to run a simple mephisto blog.

Hi, I’m Maykel Rodriguez from [SpeedyRails.com](http://SpeedyRails.com), we do not offer a
service that cheap as $5.95/month but I’m sure you will love our
reliability, quick support and easy deployments. Sorry for the self-
promotion but it seems it’s being difficult for some to find fair
prices for highly reliable (and scalable) RoR hosting.

Hello Dustin,

The fastest I have seen is cytexone out of new york.
Pros:They have an extremely fast cluster and for a shared option they
may be a way to go.
Cons: Not much rails experience so geting things done may take longer

Pros: Great rails support (keeps gems up to date), Super fast support
tcket response time. Generally they know what hey are doing. cpanel
mongrel support (read no pain with apache directives)
Cons: You may want a Virtual Dedicated, pretty inexpensive plans. The
shared option is good, but when your app gets popular, it can max out
the resources pretty fast. (I had two apps on one account and 850,000
hits in one month and we had to make the move.)

[Slicehost.com](http://Slicehost.com)
Pros: lots of resources, excellent tutorials, virtual dedicated
accounts
Cons: You must configure from base OS image ie Ubuntu Gutsy so if you
have experience with that then go to it.

[mediatemple.net](http://mediatemple.net)
Pros: slick admin panel, compartmentalized apps. Good support
Cons: I’m not sure the grid computing has been cooked long enough
yet. They seem to have some speed issues.

Hope this helps
