# Equivalent of php die()

i have a controller that is called via ajax…

if certain conditions are not met, i would like the controller to pass  
back some text and cease running the rest of the code…

something like:

```
if @forward_card.from_email.nil?
  render_text "You must include a FROM email address"
end

```

and return back to the caller…

i would like to have it die right after render\_text… and kick that  
text back to the calling function…

anyone have any ideas?
