The Role

Fuzzy is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers, manage complex projects, propose novel ideas and perspectives, and is looking to build upon a pioneering modern pet health company. We punch above our weight - Our proprietary medical record and telemedicine software has already made an impact in the industry - and we believe technology will be critical to transforming it. This is our moat. This role is highly collaborative and cross-functional. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and software engineers to build and launch software that exceeds our members’ expectations.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide technical direction in the architecture, data structure, and codebase expansion of our product
  • Actively grow and develop, technically as well as professionally, the individuals that make up the engineering team
  • Work with product teams to architect and build products our members love Plan, high-level estimation, requirement analysis with Product Owner, Engineers, and Designers
  • Balance the need to move quickly with establishing maintaining processes for security, scalability reliability
  • Communicate priorities to the engineering team on an ongoing basis; ensure projects are scoped appropriately and team is held accountable
  • Work with a cross-functional team to identify and define features that will solve complex pain points for our pet parents and educate them on improved pet care
  • Collaborating with Software Engineering Leaders, Product Managers, Member Experience Digital Health team and others to deliver impactful solutions
  • Be a hands-on resource; code review and technical feedback is expected
  • What We’re Looking For:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer science or related field preferred
    • 2+ Years experience in managing a team of 5+ engineers
    • 5+ Years of production web app development experience (mobile app is a plus)
    • 5+ Years experience in a modern MVC framework language (Ruby on Rails is a plus)
    • 3+ Years experience in frontend Javascript development (React is a plus)
    • 5+ Years experience working with databases and tools (Postgres is a plus)
    • 2+ Years experience working with distributed teams
    • Have a knack for developing new, efficient processes and systems
    • As excited about writing code as you are about developing people
    • Excellent at motivating individuals to achieve goals
    • Experience in software development for large scale applications including analysis, design, development, implementation, testing, maintenance, and quality assurance is highly desirable
    • Proactive communication skills.Ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • Data-driven decision maker with a strong bias for action and fast experimentation
    • Working knowledge and experience using Agile with Scrum methodology
    • Team player as well as self-starter who needs little supervision.
    • Able to use independent judgment to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
