WE ARE a well-funded, early-stage consumer Internet startup located
in beautiful Marin County. While we can’t talk publicly about what we
do yet, we already have over ten thousand users across the country
participating in our closed beta.
From day one, you will work closely with veteran founders who have
been
backed in the past by Kleiner and Sequoia, and you’ll be able to count
your co-workers on two hands.
We stay focused on our customers, not the latest market or tech hype,
and we’ve got a sensible, well-grounded business model that is already
generating revenue. We work hard and love what we do, but we get a
little extra charge from knowing that what we do can contribute to the
greater social good around the communities of the customers we serve.
Venture funding is great, but only in moderation, and we want to make
the money we have now last as long as possible. That means no BMW
signing bonuses or lavish launch parties. Instead, we spend money
where it makes a difference: on people (that’s you!) and what you need
to do your best work. Every engineer gets a private office with a
door that closes. You get a budget to spend as you like on your
computer and workstation: Mac, PC, ergonomic chair, two monitors –
you decide what your priorities are. Your productivity translates
directly into the company’s success, and we’re committed to
supporting it.
WE ARE SEEKING high-caliber Software Engineers and Sr. Software
Engineers eager for the challenge of creating a platform in Ruby on
Rails and Java that lets us understand how our users behave and give
them what they want faster than any potential competitor, without
compromising scalability.
YOU WILL:
- Play a key role on the company’s core engineering team working closely
with product, UI, and QA teammates - Tackle interesting implementation, performance, and scalability
challenges - Help establish an agile development culture that prides itself on best
practices, efficiency, and quality delivery - Help make the company a great place to work and make a difference in
all areas of the company’s success (it’s a startup!)
Sr. Software Engineers will bring their experience to bear on leading
larger projects, mentoring other engineers, and taking on additional
technical responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We expect that you will have at least two years professional experience
developing database-backed web applications in Java (five years for Sr.
engineers). We look for Java experience because we are seeking folks
who understand OO programming, design patterns, and MVC frameworks. You
do not need prior experience with Ruby on Rails, but you must be able to
pick it up quickly.
If you happen to have experience with MySQL, Struts/J2EE, JMS/ActiveMQ,
basic systems administration, build/release, QA/QE, or UI engineering–
it would be a big plus.
Previous startup experience would be great.
Most importantly, we are looking for talented, driven people who are
eager to work hard, learn quickly, and wear multiple hats.
LOCATION:
You will work in beautiful Marin County within view of Mt. Tamalpais,
in our newly-renovated space featuring private offices, lots of
sunlight and plenty of things nearby. We are located minutes from both
the Golden Gate and Richmond bridges right off Hwy 101, making us within
easy 20-30 minutes reach of San Francisco, East Bay, and North Bay.
We enjoy all the benefits of being a startup in the SF Bay Area while
remaining a comfortable distance from the reality distortion field that
tends to permeate SOMA and South Bay.
