I know the max communication range depends on a lot.But I've only seen
these experiments two of the board placed on the same table.

I can confirm that it's okay to place them on different tables.

The range depends entirely on:

   1. Bandwidth of our signal
   2. What antenna you use
   3. What frequency you use
   4. Modulation type and parameters, and the implementation loss of the
   modem.
   5. Many other factors.

This is why we specify a noise figure, rather than a sensitivity or 
range.
