I have got that selenium is not thread safe.. but what about
watir-webdriver?

Where is the path of @browser=Watir::Browser.new in ubuntu?

So that I can dig into the code, what is happening?

On Windows mine is in:
C:\Ruby193\lib\ruby\gems\1.9.1\gems\watir-webdriver-0.6.1

So you'll just need the appropriate directory tree in relation to your 
Ruby install.
