Forum: Ruby-Gnome 2 git2svn repository created; may I push it to github.com/ruby-gnome2/ruby-gnome2?

Hi!

I have created a local git repository from the current Subversion
trunk along with all tags and branches. May I push it to
github.com/ruby-gnome2/ruby-gnome2? Once it’s pushed you may look
through it and see if everything is to your liking. If anything is
wrong we can always clear out the repository and recreate it, right?

Yes, please.
I want to confirm it on GitHub.

Yes.

What about the follwoing schedule?

  1. We keep accepting feedbacks for the git repository on
     GitHub until 2011-09-28.
  2. We respond to feedbacks until 2011-10-05.
(We may recreate the git repository.)
  3. We migrate the svn repository to the git repository
     after 2. is finished.
(We will recreate the git repository against the latest
svn repository. We will accept commits in the svn
     repository until 2011-09-28.)
  4. We put announce text to the svn repository and make the
     svn repository read-only.

Thanks,

I will push it this evening (in about two hours or so).

This schedule sounds very good.

I have now pushed the repository:

https://github.com/ruby-gnome2/ruby-gnome2

For the record, the conversion only took about two hours on my
computer, so it’s not a big problem if we should have to recreate it
again.

OK. Let's use the schedule!

To developers: Could you check the converted git repository?

There doesn’t seem to have been any feedback. Thus this step has also
been completed.

Kouhei, it seems that you’ve applied five commits since the Git
repository was created. Would it be possible for you to simply move
these by hand to the Git repository? It seems a lot easier to do that
than to recreate the repository.

Will you perform this step, Kouhei?

Oh... I was thinking that you recreate the repository
because you said:

If I move my commits by hand, please give me a few weeks.

Sure. I'll do it after the git repository gets the latest
commits.

Haha, OK, I’ll take care of it :-). I figured that reapplying the
patches would be a quick thing to do. I’ll see if git2svn can take
care of importing your commits to the already-created repository, in
which case it should only take a couple of minutes.

OK, I’ll get back to you, probably this evening (my time ;-).

OK, I’ve updated the Git repository with all commits added since it
was initially created. It now matches Subversion trunk. Please
verify that it’s all to your liking and then close the Subversion
repository.

Thanks!

Thanks!!!

I've closed the Subversion repository with the following
announce commit:
  https://ruby-gnome2.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/ru...

Thanks for your great work!
