Hi,

During my visit tu Europe for Euruko and RubyFools, we (people behind
MRI, YARV, Rubinius, and JRuby) all agreed to have sort of design
meeting regularly (once in a week or two) to clarify spec of the Ruby
language, both 1.8 and 1.9. It's going to be held on the Net. All
subjects should be listed in Agenda on the Wiki page in prior. I
think every meeting should last approximately one hour. I am not
going to refuse anyone from joining the meeting, but speakers should
basically be developers only.

We need to decide:

 * date and time frame
 * where to put agenda (Wiki page)
 * where to hold the meeting (irc, web chat, etc.)

Preferably, chat log can be accessed via Web, so that we can put it at
the bottom of the agenda Wiki page. Any suggestion?

For time frame, I'm thinking of 11:00-12:00 +0900 (19:00-20:00 PDT) or
0:00-1:00 (8:00-9:00 PDT). I'd like to hear their opinon from atendees.

              matz.

Yes, very good idea. I'm in, regardless of the time of day.

I think IRC will probably be the easiest for everyone involved, perhaps
on #ruby-core on FreeNode. And I think once a week would be best, since
many things are moving very quickly.

It would not be difficult to set up a logger during the meetings.

It will be difficult to find a time everyone can agree on, but this
sounds pretty good to me. Luckily, most of the alternative implementers
are based in the US, so we just need a time that fits both Japan and US
developers.

Once concern I have is the English/Japanese language barrier. Does
anyone know of a few people who could help translate during these
meetings?

OK, once a week, on IRC with a logger.

Does any one have suggestion for the wiki site?

I don't worry much. The primary Japanese developers (e.g. me, koichi,
akr, and nobu) speak English. Others can read, at least. We can set
up the other channel to help understanding if it doesn't work out.

              matz.

What about IronRuby? I think John Lam should be invited too, if not
already
done.

All implementers are welcome. Matz was just listing the implementers
that were at the EU conferences.

Then it would be best to officially invite them. Wayne Kelly (Ruby.NET)
also
hasn't been mentioned. Who else?

The former is OK, but in the latter time I may sleep with the child,
probably.

Does Monday at either time NOT work for anyone? Either works for me. I
think we should get the show on the road. And shall we just make it
#ruby-core then?

OK, how about April 22st, 11:00-12:00 +0900 (Monday night in the US)?
Could somebody setup agenda wiki anywhere?

              matz.

Sounds good to me. I can just register a pbwiki to put stuff up on if
no one has an objection.

I've set up a wiki for the design meeting. It is located at
http://ruby-design.pbwiki.com/
.

Please add yourself to the People page and in the Attendees on the
Design20080421 page.

Also, please add any topics you wish to discuss into the Agenda on the
Design20080421 page.

Am going to miss this instance - am putting kids to bed tonight by
myself.
Looking forward to the notes and contributing via the wiki.

Thanks,

Hi,

The first design meeting was held on Apr. 22 (JST) on IRC. You can
check the agenda and the log in
<http://ruby-design.pbwiki.com/Design20080421>.

The next meeting will start from May 1st 11:00 JST. Due to time
difference, it is still April 30 for people from The United States.

If you have something to discuss, please add the issue to Agenda Wiki
<http://ruby-design.pbwiki.com/Design20080430> before the meeting. We
basically don't discuss about things not in the agenda. If need to
login and ask Evan Phoenix for permission to write.

              matz.
