Ruby Forum Ruby-core > Auto-translating gateway between ruby-core and ruby-dev?

I for one feel left out of conversations on ruby-dev. Barring my
spending a few years studying Japanese, there's no way to know what's
being discussed, and I dearly would like to know.

I know auto-translators are frequently inaccurate for east asian
languages, and that they sometimes turn Japanese into unintelligible
nonsense, but they frequently are able to translate just enough to get a
general idea. At that point, one of us English-speakers could express
our interest and request a more complete translation or summary. At
least we'd have some general impression about where conversations are 
going.

Is there any interest in setting up an auto-translating two-way gateway
between dev and core?

but...does this go into the general list? I'm not sure, but if Japanese
ruby-core has a lot of traffic, the strange "auto-translated" messages
might be more spam than useful. so, how does this actually work?

Good point. If you want to do this, please create separate lists
(for subscription only, not for posting) such as
ruby-core-translated-to-japanese@ruby-lang.org and
ruby-dev-translated-to-english@ruby-lang.org,
so that people can select whether they want to get these
messages or not.

Right.  A literal two-way translation would put undue burden on the
two groups.  Even though very useful, Japanese<->English translation
systems especially output too much gibberish to become regular
traffic.  The best one I've seen is the excite.co.jp one linked to by
the archive (the "E" button on Japanese lists, "J" button on English),
but it's not working currently.
