I am new to Lighttpd on ubuntu i have problem in which i cant stop
server with "sudo /etc/init.d/lighttpd stop " and i have to "killall
lighttpd" to stop it. how can i resolve this issue?

Why doesn't it stop?
Do you have the scripts required in init.d? where did they come from?
Do they have execution permissions?

Answer some of those, that might help.
Otherwise you'll need to get more specific
