What is [email protected]?

So I see a lot of legitimate postings to this group using the above
From: but then again I also see spammers using it to cover their tracks.

So just exactly what is [email protected] and why is
it being used?

Please reconsider it’s use as it’s much harder to blacklist spammers
if they are using legimate email addresses.
